What a dismal spot of news last night. I heard that the record for fewest hours of sunshine in Denmark, in November, is 11 hours. The average for the month is 54 hours of sunshine.
So far this November we've had... three. Three lousy hours of sunshine.
Just ain't fair.

Eww... at first I was thinking, "11 hours a day? What's so bad about that, especially that far north, in November?". Then I realised this was for total hours in the whole month. I sympathise.
I used to tease my friends in the Netherlands, telling them the Dutch word "zon" meant that glowing patch in the clouds. I guess it's the flip side of having the Gulf Stream to warm you guys that far north. You get the clouds that rise from the warm water (and the rain they drop) too...

I've recently discovered your blog and, by now, I'm a big fan. I'm not what you'd call a chic cyclist for many reasons: only have one bicycle and its a mountain bike; only ride it wearing shorts and my sports shoes equipped with cleats.
However, here in Oeiras, by the sea, near Lisbon, Portugal, you can wear light clothes most of the year. Some stats: 280 days without rain, average hours of sunlight per day ranging from 5 (Dec./jan) to 11 (Jul) and average min. temperature between 7ºC and 17ºC.
However, don't think I writing this comment to make you feel jealous. It's you guys that make me jealous of your bicycle lifestyle! It's wonderful. It's been growing here in portugal but when I tell people I'll meet them on my bicycle, they still think I'm some kind of weirdo.
Just think that you can't have it all. You have the style, we have the sun. Which one is better? I wouldn't change this climate for your lifestyle. Would you stop riding your bike everywhere and start driving around as most of the other portuguese do?
Just enjoy it and keep publishing those great pics of your city and its people (specially the elegant bike riding ladies, or should we say, bike gliding ladies?)

Come on, sun's not everything - here in the Pacific Northwest we pretty much assume that it will disappear sometime in November, but we are happy and confident that we will see it again in March. Anything in addition to that is bonus, and thoroughly appreciated, but never expected. Embrace the grey, revel in the damp, and know that the warmth will return. Val

i think the lack of light in the wintertime is about the only thing i DON'T miss about living in denmark. of course, there's something delightful about huddling inside over wine and candles... america doesn't do hygge nearly so well, it seems.

Living in the constant 20c and sun in So Cal, I'll trade you some sun for some sense in urban planning and more cycle chics from your pics.
My favorite topic, as you may remember, from our discussion in London... I still can't for the life of me understand why the urban and bike culture in the US west centers on the pacific-north-wet like Portland and most people won't ride in the forever sunny LA.
