Designing Bicycles & Urban Lifestyles

How to design a lifestyle? from Bicycle Innovation Lab on Vimeo.

It's hardly a secret that Cycle Chic® is run by Copenhagenize Consulting, the mobility consultancy that works with cities around the world in becoming more bicycle friendly. While this blog came first, it is now an extension of our work in promoting cycling around the world.

I'll be speaking here in Copenhagen - at the Danish Architecture Center - on October 30th, 2012, together with designer Jens Martin Skibsted from KiBiSi. It's a part of the lecture series from Bicycle Innovation Lab - Denmark's cultural centre for cycling that we co-founded last year.

Jens Martin will be talking about bicycle design - based on his work with Biomega. I'll be talking about designing streets instead of engineering them. Designing lifestyle is the theme.

The film, above, is a teaser for the event.

The lectures are free and they will be in English, so feel free to come on down if you're in Copenhagen.

HaHa! I LOVE the Dollard des Ormeaux 1974 plate on the spokes of the bike! I had this on my bike when I was a young girl! Where the heck did you get that from? Dollard des Ormeaux is a small city on the West Island of Montreal- not exactly something that I would expect on a Danish website :) Flashback! Tusind tak!

I bought it in Montreal last summer! At the second-hand shop Botines. :-)

Very cool! I really like that a small piece of our very limited biking culture can make it to Copenhagen. I lived there for a few years and really miss the cycling! My poor imported Everton is hanging out in our garage and doesn't get the attention that it deserves... Thanks for the blogging!

Get that Everton on the pistes cyclables!

Unfortunately, the bike friendly culture is fairly limited to downtown :( We ended up back in the 'burbs- yes, close to Dollard des Ormeaux- and you get dirty looks for even taking a walk ;) I am happy to report that the Everton did make it back out this summer for short local trips with baby on the back.... Just missing the ability to use the bike for regular commuting (and life) like we did in CPH. So special! Your pictures in this blog warms the soul :)

Just thinking of it: Our suburban mayors should talk to you about how to successfully integrate bicycles with existing commuter systems. This would allow suburban residents to make the most of cycling. Maybe I should start writing these letters? ;)
