Don't sweat it (as it were), the so called "Beach Cruiser" is hard to beat as a rainy/snowy season bike. In fact, if you fit it with a fixed wheel it can't be beat.
The cruisin' chic scenery is better in the summer months though, or maybe that's just me.
@Hawthorn - You must be new here. The brakes are where brakes have been for 113 years; where they can be operated naturally and intuitively even by a preschool child without training, without any concern for the ability to muster sufficient muscular strength, or even any particular degree of coordination.
Unfortuntly these people were riding illegally! No Helmets!!. Such a pity the simplicity of bicycle riding in Australia has been taken away! Mostly I would wear a helmet in traffic But I don't like being told to! apparently bicycle use in Australia went down 40% once helmet laws came in! Greggy

In Chico, California it's pretty common to see college couples out on bike dates. I get pretty freaked out when they kiss without stopping though.
