any ideas what type of bike that is in the second photo? Looks like an unusual set up.

From behind it's not absolutely clear, but especially given the high handlebars and the three sets of tubes angling upward toward the handlebars, I'm pretty sure that's a Pedersen. The Pedersen was invented by Mikael Pedersen, a Dane, who lived in Dursley England a century or so ago. It was revived a decade or two ago and is now manufactured in Denmark and Germany. One of the most stately looking bikes I have seen. I would love to have one myself!
