Steady As She Goes

Steady As She Goes, originally uploaded by [Zakkaliciousness].

You have to stay focused in the traffic. You have to "keep your tongue straight in your mouth", as we say in Danish. And keeping a firm foot on the ground helps, too.

A typical Copenhagen sight. Work on the back carrier, groceries in the basket and a moment later she exited stage right to glide into a kindergarten to pick up her kid.

Dang, she got one pair o kickass boots there!

Sartorial cycling heaven. The boots. The jeans tucked in. The jacket, the combination of colours, the bag. All. Everything.

Dang!

Two questions:
1 - what is the idea behind "keep your tongue straight in your mouth"?
2 - does the kid she's going to pick up also ride a bicycle?

Double dang!

joäo: The idea behind the phrase is that you have to concentrate. Focus. You know when you are concentrating, your tongue sticks out a bit and to the side? Keep it straight and you will be more focused.

What is a similar phrase in (i assume) Portugese? Every language has one.

sorry joäo, forget to answer the other question.
yes, probably her kid rides. most kids do from a very early age.

You assumed right, I'm Portuguese. :-)

It is not quite the same idea, but we must keep our head above the shoulders.

Here in Portugal I couldn't risk take (even) my oldest daughter to school on bike. She rides fairly well (on summer she does some very light mountain biking with me), but with no bike lines and the nuts drivers on the streets it would be too risky.

hello, i've been checking in for the last week now, and all the photos are so fantastic! it seems it's mostly men doing the commenting, but your ladies on a bike with boots are like looking at a killer fashion spread, and i can feel good about all the biking being done. such a treat. keep up the good work!

If your tongue goes crooked you might bite it...
