Sandy Toes

Cycle Chic Bloggers Conference Beach _3
Boy, do I ever miss Barcelona. Riding around on the Cycle Chic bicycle, down to the beach, on to a café.

Fortunately, I'll be speaking in Brazil on Saturday, in Sao Paulo. Followed by a great party in Rio de Janeiro next week. So I'll get my fix of barefooted bicycle riding with sandy toes. Which is tough this summer here in Copenhagen.

Here's a few other barefoot bicycle shots:

Spring

In spite of sudden snow yesterday, spring is undeniably in the air along with the promise of good times in Copenhagen. Only one thing is certain, though: the bicycle will always be a key accessory.

Cycle Chic is off to London for a meeting today. No idea if there will be time for photography but we live in hope... Here are some shots from an earlier visit.

Another Summer Shot

Few things beat hanging out with your buddies in the Copenhagen Summer Sun. Spring will hopefully be here soon.

Summer Shots

With the wind chill making Copenhagen feel like minus 19°C, it's time to administer some Cycle Chic antidepressant:

Summer Dreams

Basket
I found a folder on one of my harddisks from last year that I hadn't edited. Middle of July. Middle of the Copenhagen summer. Sigh.

It is a reminder that summer will, indeed, return. Hard to imagine sometimes in early February.

An Affirmation

Oh for heaven's sake. Another snowstorm has rolled over Copenhagen. I love winter, I love snow, I love cycling in snow in the winter. But please... give me some hope of summer.

Enter Artuu, with this brilliant photo from the official Cycle Chic Flickr group.

I'm currently re-reading Susan Sontag's brilliant work from 1971 called On Photography. It's a dog-eared volume:
Sign of a Good Book

In it she writes this:

"Poignant longing for beauty, for an end to probing below the surface, for a redemption and celebration of the body of the world - all these elements of erotic feeling are affirmed in the pleasure we take in photographs."

The Oasis of Daily Life

The Oasis of Everyday Life 06
So there's this little kebab place where I occasionally grab a falafel durum with heaps of chili. It's called The Oasis of Daily Life [Dagliglivets Oase] and it's placed right on a corner with glass windows on three sides.
The Oasis of Everyday Life 02
I can either watch the chap prepare my food or look out the window at my fellow citizens rolling past on their bicycles. I usually choose the latter.

The meteologists are warning us that summer is 'over' in Denmark. But the sun never sets on the Cycle Chic empire.

Yellow Morning

Yellow Wall 11
I have a series of photographs taken on Nørrebrogade - the busiest bicycle street in the Western world - taken last week. All along the section running past Assistens Cemetary, burial place of Hans Christian Andersen, the Father of Existensialism Søren Kirkegaard and various American jazz musicians who here in the 60's when Copenhagen was the jazz capital of the planet. The light here is wonderful on summer mornings and the yellow wall a fine background.

For now, let's start with this photo. Quintessential Copenhagen. Doesn't get more CPH than this. For me, it sums up everything I love about this city and the people who inhabit it.

This Day in Cycle Chic History

Oh lazy day. Still trying to come to terms with Life After Summer Holidays. So here's a This Day in Cycle Chic History post. What bicycle related photos did I take on this day in previous years?

I was productive on this day in 2008, apparently. The iconic blue bike lanes of Copenhagen, as seen from above.
Surveying Her Kingdom
One of the two Weather Girls high atop the Richs Building overlooking Hans Christian Andersen's Boulevard and the City Hall Square. They acted as a weather barometer from the mid 1930's until 1995, when the machine broke. If rain was forecast the woman with an umbrella and a dog would rotate out to hover over the city. If the weather was fair, the Cycling Girl rotated out. Here's an earlier post about them.
