While winter cycling certainly is doable with normal tyres, studded tyres and a bike easy to handle in snow does add a level of safety and convenience when you have ice and snow for many months of the year (or used to have anyway; these past two years the winter has been halved) and the multi-use path (what bike path?) maintenance is poor at best (especially when the surface starts turning into a mixture of slush and ice), not to even speak of the abundant slippery road crossings, where the motorists are allowed by law to run over you (if you're on a bicycle, but not if you're a pedestrian. Yet typically they don't let pedestrians cross either, expecting people to yield to their cages and rather stepping on the gas before a zebra crossing. The best way to get a chance to cross the road, is to approach it fast, and make a last second stop.)

No, I do not live on the north american continent. mad. its hilly, they live on the side of a steep hill, and they are ruining their knees.

i am also glad to see that Denmark has some intelligent rules about riding without brakes. what happens if you get a flat tyre going down hill? or something blocks your path and you can't stop? riding without being able to stop just seems rather daft.

Anyway,
