These new traffic lights in Copenhagen are wild when photographed digitally. So bright. Heading home in the evening, or heading out on the town. We'll never know where she is heading but we can hope it was fun.

Silky Summer

A cracking weekend in Copenhagen, with loads of sunshine. It's pouring with rain, today, but rest assured, summer is here. Enfin.

The Bike Porter Basket

Cycle Chic is lovin' this integrated handlebars/basket from a local company called Copenhagen Parts. It's called the Bike Porter. Bicycle baskets are as common as pedals and chainguards in the Copenhagen bicycle culture and while there is certainly nothing wrong with the fine wicker baskets we've been using for more than a century, it is always brilliant when something rethinks the concept.
Streamlined and functional, simple and elegant. Everything that Danish Design is known for. You attach the Bike Porter in place of your current handlebars and off you go. Our trained eye has figured out that a flat of beer would fit just about right in that basket. An important detail now that summer is upon us and the beaches await.
Check out their website for more info and to see check to see if there's a dealer near you.

Beauty Bicycles from Sweden!
Here's a vintage ad for Swedish bike brand Monark, from the 1950's. The Swedish nickname for these upright ladies bicycles was 'beauty bicycles' or 'beautycyklar'. Doesn't that fit perfectly with Cycle Chic?! Wonderful.
Check out the lovely skirtguard on the first bicycle featured. When the lady at 0:20 walks out of the back, they compare the lines of her jacket to the lines of the bicycle.
This is vintage Cycle Chic. This is how it used to be. This is how we're making it again. We're loving it.

Glimpses of Red

Red. It should never be overused. I've had a red Ralph Lauren Polo shirt for 15 years that I simply can't throw out, even though I only wear it four times a year. I need to be in a certain mood and I can't for the life of me, figure out when or what that mood it is.
But red stands out. It's a statement. Albeit an elegant one.
Whether gloves or noctural heels.
A Cycle Chic classic, from February 7, 2007.

Ottawa Cycle Chic

Some lovely shots from my friend, Joel, in Ottawa, with the Parliament buildings in the background.
Tomorrow - June 2, 2010 - there will be a Best Dressed Commuter prize at the Commuter Challenge / Clean Air Day event in the Canadian capital.
Sepia tones, but that wicked cool Bullitt cargo bike betrays the old school mood.

Look Left and Elegant Patience

Looking left before proceeding.
Style Over Speed, indeed. Not worried with muscling her way to the front of the rush hour red light crew, she waits patiently at a relaxing distance for the light to change.
