Leather jacket, gloves and boots on Istedgade in the Vesterbro neighbourhood.
Cowboy boot retro with skirt.
When you read this I'll be heading off to Vienna for some Cycle Chic business and then on to Brno, Czech Republic to speak at a conference about Marketing Bicycle Culture. Hoping for some great cycle chic shots from both cities. Stay tuned.

The Length of the Day

Whenever you read the weather report in newspapers they mention The Length of the Day and how much longer or shorter it is since the last equinox. Today: The Length of the Day is lengthened by 6 hours and 21 minutes. Six and half hours more light since December. And there's plenty more on the way.
The funny thing is that shadows will get shorter the higher the sun rises in the sky towards summer's peak.

Great Moments in Cycling - April 2010

Been a while since we had a Great Moment in Cycling but here's a keeper. Copenhagener in the middle of a frightfully elegant and graceful dismount, bathed in the spring sunshine. Keeping a keen eye on the shop window that attracted her attention.

What a Ride

What a lovely ride. Feet up, blanket, cushion. Your man cycling you along - and just up a hill, too - and all you have to do is help by sticking out your arm and signalling a right turn.
Wonderful.
Which made me remember this photo from a while back.

Cycling Poise

Photographically speaking, it's not an instant Cycle Chic classic. But I keep returning to it in my head. For the poise. The poise.
Look at the lines. Such elegant lines. Sitting up straight like her mother taught her. Pedalling with true Style Over Speed. Taking it easy. Oh, the lines. Can't get much closer to a 90 degree angle.
Then I remembered this one from a week or so ago. It hammers home the point that cycling doesn't have to be a hunched over, adrenaline-based, testosterone-driven activity.
Here's a quote from an American book on ‘How to bicycle’ from 1892, by L. F. Korns, as seen on Quickrelease.tv:
“As a means of pleasure, cycling stands in the foremost rank, but in common with all the great pleasures, it may easily stand in the foremost in abuse. The desire to ride at an unreasonably high speed may become morbid... The ever lasting scorcher, bent like a hoop, and with sunken cheeks, ought to be quite sufficient warning against this abuse.”
No 'scorchers' and thank goodness for that. Cycle like you walk. Head raised high.

Vallen

Urban cycling is, of course, sociable. Whilst on my way about town one day, I met up coincedentally with a good friend, Vallen. One of the coolest people you could ever hope to know.
Luckily we were heading the same way for a bit, so we did some catching up as we pedalled along the bike lanes before he needed to go left and I needed to continue straight on.
Wouldn't happen if we were driving, now would it?

Copenhagen Cross Sections

We often do portrait-like shots here at Cycle Chic to emphasize personal style and elegance. Here's a couple of shots taken last week. Some cross section shots of Copenhageners doing what they do best - transporting themselves quickly and easily from A to B on their bicycles.
All these shots were taken in the afternoon one random weekday.

Easter Sunday Bikealiciousness in Bristol

Cycle Chic's bestest friend Amy from Cyclodelic in London is putting on a bicycle bash in Bristol, UK on Easter Sunday.
Here's the blurb, it sounds like heaps of fun. You can also read more on Cyclodelic's blog.
Come as your favourite Summer drink, don a fine Easter bonnet or fluff up your cottontail for an afternoon’s bicycle adventure around Central Bristol.
Cycle solo or in small teams to checkpoints around the city centre to collect Easter eggs & points & POINTS = PRIZES. In what order you collect them is up to you, some will be hidden & some will require tasks that can earn you points for style. Extra points will be given for best bunnies, top bonnets & booze inspired costumes (your Sunday best is allowed, as dapper & delightful will also earn you points).
Once the hunt is up and all the eggs are eaten (or broken) its back to Howies for Havana Rum and prize giving and a chance to see an exhibition of bicycle themed artworks from illustrators around the globe.
What you’ll need:
-£5 entry with all profits going to the Environmental Justice Foundation
-your beloved bicycle
-a street map of Bristol
-a digital camera or camera phone
-your lock for the party after
