About Copenhagen Cycle Chic

Moi, cycliste
[Udpated 2009]
Copenhagen Cycle Chic began its bloglife back in June 2007 when jouranlist, film director and photographer Mikael Colville-Andersen decided to put a growing number of photos about Copenhagen's bicycle culture into one place on the internet.

A series of social documentary photos about Copenhagen started to include a number of shots of life in the World's Cycling Capital, including fashionable Copenhageners on their bicycles. The feedback about these photos was positive and there was clearly a growing interest abroad in seeing how the bicycle was an integral part of life in the Danish capital. Specifically about how Copenhageners have demystified the bicycle and use it without any form of bicycle 'gear'. Just as the bicycle was meant to be ridden when invented.

The blog took on a streetstyle form as it grew in popularity and the readership includes people interested in fashion as well as bicycles and bicycle culture.

Colville-Andersen has teamed up with various co-bloggers to bring different angles and perspectives to the blog and he welcomes the inclusion of guest photos sent in from around the world.

Since starting the blog and, not least, coining the phrase "Cycle Chic" the number of blogs and websites inspired by CCC has grown explosively throughout 2008.

The bicycle has served to liberate the working classes and, in particular, women back in the tail-end of the 19th century. In the post-war years, the bicycle was relegated to being merely a toy or piece of sports equipment. Copenhagen Cycle Chic aims to take back the bike culture by showing how the bicycle once again can be an integral, respectable and feasible transport form, free of sports clothes and gear, and how it can play a vital role in increasing the life quality in cities.

I live in Canada, just about two hours from Toronto, and although I do enjoy cycling, and I must say I have been involved in a passionate love affair with fashion since I left for university. My friend (who lives in Toronto) introduced me to this site, and I have fallen in love with not only this "Cycle Chic", but the beautiful, inspiring Cycling Capital, Copenhagen. If I could choose any city in the world to move to, inspire my creativity and self-awareness, it would be Copenhagen. One day....one day. Thank you for composing such an inspirational site!

I love your half-hearted attempt to even the score on posting as many pictures of guys as you do of girls. This blog is very inspiring. Currently feels like its my affair :). I live in Kansas city -US and here the bike community is not so big as in Europe, yet I keep riding and slowly i think people will become more aware of the many advantages and the bliss that involves riding. A Graphic designer myself - Fashion lover - Bike lover - I heart this blog. Thanks for the daily inspiration :). (Great vids on the Tokyo scene)
P.S: Maybe in the future I'll send you a pic of me and Jenny ( my yellow cruiser )

I love this blog. I lived in CPH for 6 months on an Erasmus exchange and absolutely loved how bike friendly the city was. You can bike anywhere in 15 mins and the bike lanes are huge. I loved how it was such a taken for granted and integral part of daily life. Now I live in Oxford and it's almost the same, lots of people bike but the lanes are tiny and drivers shout at us :-( How I long to move back to CPH.

Hi,

my name is Reto. I was born in Switzerland and went to New York 4 years ago. This was one of my greatest dreams. I work there as a freelancer and translate articles into other languages like German or Hispanic.

I love your streetstyle-blog and I´ll be very happy, if you add some new pictures. The people´s style you took pictures of is really funny and cool.

Few days ago I couldn´t resist: I registered a new site called PeopleOfNewYork (http://www.peopleofnewyork.com/) and I installed a blog-software. The first picture was from me:http://www.peopleofnewyork.com/?p=3

I hope, that you watch my blog and tell me, if I can do something better. It would be a honor for me, if you add my new streetstyle-blog in your blogroll.

Many Cheers from New York,
Reto

Thank you for this very cool blog from a Dane in the L.A. area who has stubbornly used a bike to get around for more than a decade.

I sure hope folks here in the L.A. area will start riding bikes more and stop driving every single day. I'm doing my bit to promote biking, but as long as there is so much prestige attached to owning a car, I fear bike riders will remain in the minority. Still, we can always hope, right?

God Jul/Merry Xmas everyone!
